Dear Cassie,

I’m so sorry for the events that transpired this weekend and my part in it. I understand if you’d prefer a new therapist.

Raina

Frowning, I take a deep breath. I know in my heart I’ll never be able to look past what she did. I need a new therapist. Dammit.

Raina,

Thank you for reaching out. I don’t think I’ll be in need of your services anymore, and I’ll be looking beyond the Counseling Center at the school for proper care.

Sincerely,

Cassie

Slamming my laptop closed, I shake my head. I’m really irritated that I need to look for a new therapist, but I don’t trust the integrity of the ones here on campus anymore.

There’s a knock on the door, and I sigh. My nerves are shot today, and I just want to go to bed. I’m exhausted, and I feel emotionally hung over. I'm so glad I start teaching at the gym tomorrow, because it’ll help me get centered.

Glancing down, I realize I’ve been doing homework in a thin shirt without a bra and yoga pants. Grabbing a super soft hoodie, I walk to the door and open it.

“Hey, Marsha,” I say, forcing a smile. She’s usually so needy, it’s so hard for me to be excited to chat with her.

“I wanted to congratulate you on your performance last weekend. I heard you did amazing,” she gushes, and I relax a little.

“Thank you, I really appreciate it. I enjoyed it, right up until the end,” I tell her, remembering Dena still.

Marsha doesn’t notice, nodding emphatically. “I noticed you’ve been in your room a while and figured you were working hard. Do you want to run downstairs with me and take a break? We can grab coffee or a snack?”

My stomach chooses that moment to complain, and I blush. “I think food is something I definitely need,” I laugh. “Let me grab shoes.”

Marsha grins as I throw on warm boots and a warm hat. It’s getting late, and it’s probably going to be cold.

Locking my door, I chat with her as we decide to run to the cafeteria for late night nachos. The school is really good about providing round the clock food, since there’s always activities happening.

I see Lyra’s blonde hair as she rounds the corner, but my attention is on Marsha.

“Cassie! Where are you going?” Lyra asks, and I turn.

“Hey! I’m starving,” I giggle. “I’ve been working on projects since I got home from school, and Marsha invited me to grab food with her. I feel silly for not realizing sooner that I was hungry.”

“Want to come?” Marsha invites with a smile.

Lyra shakes her head slowly, a shadow falling over her face. “No, that’s okay. I’m going to do some homework myself. I’m going for a run early tomorrow,” she explains. “If I’m asleep when you get back in, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

We say goodbye and continue to the cafeteria. It’s not busy, and Marsha and I actually get a chance to talk. Yeah, she’s a little clingy and strange, but I’m having more fun than I expected to.
